The 7th AWCCA General Assembly Meeting 2019 was held in Melaka, Malaysia on Nov. 21st, 2019. Founder members from mainland China (CEEIA-ECWB), Indonesia (APKABEL), Malaysia (MCMA), Vietnam (HECA), Singapore (ICA), Taiwan China (TEWCA), affiliated members Huatong Cable and some of MCMA’s key members attended the meeting as observers. This meeting was hosted by the Malaysian Cable Manufacturers’ Association (MCMA). This meeting was conducted by the Chairman of AWCCA, Mr. Zhou Chizhong and the Secretary General, Mr. Bek Chee Jin.
In the meeting, Mr. Bek Chee Jin from ICA Southeast Asia explained the internal restructure to AWCCA Founder Members, and they are all agreed to maintain ICA as Secretary-General and just nominate another person from ICA China. Besides, Founder members shared updates from their respective countries and region, also delivered presentations to exchange information. AWCCA Secretariat reviewed 2018-2019 activities with participants, and Mr. Zheng Qiu from SECRI gave the information from IEC General Meeting 2019 held in October in Shanghai.
Some items were raised by observers from MCMA members, one of the biggest issues is how AWCCA can help MCMA to work with governmental authority to tackle the sub-standard C&W products. Others include:
1. How MCMA can adopt previous three AWCCA Technical Specifications into their national standard,
2. Request for hybrid cable information exchange with APKABEL,
3. Request for fireproof cable information sharing from SECRI,
4. Request for photovoltaic/solar cable industry information exchange / visit tour with Vietnam manufacturers,
5. Organize the C&W Salon in China at regional level during the Wire China Expo 2020 in Shanghai.
In parallel, we also organized an AWCCA Technical Training to MCMA members on 3 topics regarding:
1. Knowledge of Photovoltaic/solar Cable Technology,
2. Production Technology of Cross-linking,
3. Insulated and Sheathing Compounds for C&W
Participants of the technical training appreciated such knowledge sharing opportunity and suggested such training can be organized more frequently and more selectively.
In the past 7 years, AWCCA has been growing in strength, growing in influence and enriched in work content with the active cooperation and joint efforts of all members. Under the leadership of the new Chairman, AWCCA will continue to focus on the member recruitment, technical documents development, business trade platform construction, project-based organization model. We are trying to serve all the members more pragmatically and efficiently, and actively organize them to participate in and benefit from it.
The 8 th AWCCA General Assembly Meeting will be held in Shanghai in 2020, organized by China Electrical Equipment Industry Association - Electric Cable & Wire Branch (CEEIA-ECWB).
