All-Russian Scientific Research and Development Cable Institute (JSC «VNIIKP») (Moscow, Russia) was founded in 1947 by the Order of the USSR Council of Ministers. Since than VNIIKP has been the head intitution for the cable industry of the Country.
Principal activities include, but are not limited to following branches:
- Fundamental scientific researches;
- Research and development of new advanced types of cable products, their accessories, conducting, insulating and sheathing materials;
- Development of test and research methods and procedures;
- Elaboration and introduction of new advanced production processes;
- Development of regulatory and technological documents, including national and internationally harmonized standards (GOSTs);
- Field diagnostics of cables, cable service life and reliability prediction;
- Expert evaluation of cable products, materials and accessories;
- Innovate technical solutions. Licenses for the right to manufacture products developed by VNIIKP and protected by patents for inventions and utility models;
- Testing of cable products and materials, including certification and inspection tests. Identification and quality assessment of cable materials;
- Manufacturing of specialty cables and wires;
- International scientific and technological cooperation.
Up-to-date technical facilities of VNIIKP Test Center enable the performance of the following tests:
- comprehensive assessment of cable and wire fire safety;
- diagnosis of the current state and prediction of the remaining service life of cable products in operation;
- assessment of resistance to environmental exposure;
- confirmation of cable compliance with the requirements of the current regulatory documentation.
The Test Center carries out the following tests according to its own original methods recognized by the leading consumers of cable products:
- identification of materials used in cable and wire constructions;
- assessment of cable performance under severe operating conditions, including the containment area of NPP;
- tests of superconducting materials and cable products on their basis.
Established as a research center, JSC “VNIIKP” is actively engaged in an intellectual activity. More than 200 license agreements and around 1700 patents is the output of persistent efforts over the last two decades.
Over the course of more than 70 years since the Institute was founded many technologies developed by its specialists have become part of our daily life and are now widely applied in the electrical industry of the Russian Federation and other countries of the Commonwealth of Indipendent States (CIS). The high technical and technological potential of VNIIKP, the innovative nature of its activities, the compliance of the developments with the requirements of the present time — all this speaks to the fact that the Institute is able
to meet competition and its products are in great demand both in Russia and in the foreign market.
